Midwest drummer and producer Gabriel "Manuals" Wallace (Gorillaz, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Fadrbooste) presents his debut album MID ONE [Manuals Instrumental Disc One]. The delightfully crisp 2-and-4 jams on this LP articulate a blended hiphop+indie+dj+electro+fusion impetus. Gorillaz live bandmate Paul Simonon (The Clash) says of Manuals' drumming: "His beats have a way of sticking like glue."
Tracked in Brooklyn at Electrik Indigo Studios, MID ONE spans 10+ tracks with Manuals handling production/writing/arranging/drums/percussion. Key players are NYC brethren Jesse Fischer (Laura Izibor, Ms. Hill) on engineering/mixing/mastering/keys, David Linaburg (J Cole, Laura Izibor) on guitar, Josh David (Q-Tip) on bass, and Rogiers (Alicia Keys, Platinum Pied Pipers) on organ. Contributing guests include Jean Caze (Michael Buble) on trumpet and Greg Ward (Occidental Brothers) on sax.
